Neither the Northern or Southern soldiers were very skilled in battle, but all were willing to lay down their lives in order to fight for what they believed in. Both sides virtually had the same weapons but some held a little difference. Both sides had rifles, sabers, revolvers, and cannons; but these weapons were not the main types of technology used during the war. Also present were telegram lines, the railroads, and the navel ships. The Union won the war, because they were able to use these technologies. The war was won because the Union could communicate through telegraphs and were able to send supplies to their troops by using the railroad. General William Sherman was a main factor to the Union winning the war, because during his march to the sea, he destroyed everything in his path, including railroad tracks. The Anaconda Plan was a major factor to the north's technological win from the Naval aspect. They used ships to block all Southern ports, so that they could not use their ports to gain aid from any allies, and were not able to transport any goods to the Confederate soldiers during their time of need in the war; this, in the end forced the Confederacy to surrender. The end of the Civil War came on Tuesday May 9, 1865 at a courthouse in Appomattox, with a Union victory.
