Lasting impact of the civil war
Amendments that changed the United States Because of the 13th, 14th, and 15th amendments, the United States was a different place. Slaves were free, African Americans could vote and were also granted citizenship. This was a lasting impact of the Civil War because, of course, these amendments are still in effect today. The Constitution was changed and altered to fit the way the United States wanted it to. Although many bad things happened because of the Civil War, including the death rate totaling about 620,000, these changes to the Constitution paved the way for a new America, and amendments and laws used then are still used today.
Division
There would still be a division in the United States after the Civil War, it was inevitable because a war had just been fought. Although there would be no more civil wars, the North and the South would still have many differing opinions. Agriculture is still popular in the south, but so is industry. The North is still bigger in manufacturing and has little farming. The United States under reconstruction would have to learn how to work together again but eventually it would work itself out. The United States is one nation, full of diversity but still manages to have freedom of almost anything and is a powerful nation. Still today, some people in the south say "The south will rise again." and wave the rebel flag. Even though it is not probable that their will be another civil war, there are definitely differences between the north and south even in 2013 that create sectionalism.

Slaves No More Slavery was abolished because of the Thirteenth Amendment after the Civil War was over but happened because of it. Slaves were free and eventually would be allowed to become citizens and vote. Many radical Southerners still hated African Americans so black codes were started to try and separate the whites from blacks. These codes were unethical but many men thought it was necessary because they were still African Americans and seen as property. The Ku Klux Klan was started as a hate group towards both white and black republicans against slavery. The KKK is still around today, but not as much hate crimes still exist because of the group.

war Strategies During the Civil War there were many land battles, but there were also naval battles at sea. During 1861 naval battles were almost more important than the land battles at the time, and this popularity lasted until about 1862. Today, many naval strategies of war are still used that were used back then. Troops in the Civil war used their naval battleships to fight wars and today ships are still used in the navy and for war. The Confederacy had battleships and submarines that they used against the Union, but because the Union had more manufacturing they had better ships to fight against the Confederacy. This resulted in the Union winning more naval battles because of how strong their ships were. Everywhere today, countries try to make the strongest ships so that in case of war, they might have the best ships for a war overseas.
